The fair distribution of Maryadaramanna
Once upon a time, in a small village in Andhra Pradesh, lived a man named Ramanna, known for his unwavering honesty and integrity.
In the village where Maryadaramanna lived, there was a severe drought one year. The rivers dried up, the fields wilted, and the villagers were worried about their future.
The village head called a meeting to discuss how they could save the remaining water and distribute it fairly among all the villagers.During the meeting, Maryadaramanna suggested a plan: "We should dig a large communal well that can store rainwater when it finally comes.
Each household should contribute by digging and maintaining it. This way, we can ensure everyone has access to water during tough times."The villagers agreed, and everyone pitched in to dig the well. However, as the days passed, the well was still dry, and the villagers grew desperate.
One night, a wealthy and influential villager decided to secretly draw water from his private well, which he had been hiding from the others.
Maryadaramanna noticed that the wealthy villager’s fields were flourishing while others’ crops continued to wither. He decided to investigate and soon discovered the hidden well. Confronting the wealthy villager, Maryadaramanna said, "You have been using this water for your benefit while the rest of the village suffers. This is not fair."The wealthy villager, feeling ashamed, admitted his selfishness and agreed to share his well's water with the community.
Maryadaramanna organized the fair distribution of water, ensuring everyone received their share.Eventually, the rains came, filling the communal well they had dug together. The village celebrated their collective effort and unity. The wealthy villager, having learned a valuable lesson, became a more considerate and community-oriented person.
Moral of the story :
* selfishness and greed can harm the community, while honesty, fairness, and cooperation lead to collective well-being.
* By working together and looking out for one another, a community can overcome even the toughest challenges.
