The Farmer's Wise Horse
Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a poor farmer who had a faithful horse.
One day, the horse ran away. The villagers came to sympathize with the farmer. "Such bad luck!" they said. The farmer simply replied, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"A few days later, the horse returned, bringing along a group of wild horses.
The villagers exclaimed, "What wonderful luck!"The farmer responded, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"The farmer's son tried to tame one of the wild horses, but he was thrown off and broke his leg. Again, the villagers came to offer their sympathy. "What bad luck!"The farmer said once more, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"Soon after, the country went to war, and all the young men in the village were conscripted to fight.
The farmer's son, with his broken leg, was spared from the draft. The villagers said, "What good luck!"And the farmer replied, "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?"
