    The Twelve Wild Ducks

Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there lived a queen who longed for a daughter after having twelve sons. When she finally gave birth to a girl, an evil witch cursed the newborn princess, causing the queen's twelve sons to transform into wild ducks.

The only way to break the curse was for the princess to sew twelve shirts from nettles and remain silent for seven years—neither speaking nor laughing during this time.As the princess grew older and learned about her brothers' fate, she vowed to break the curse. Determined, she left the palace to live in a hut in the forest, where she began her arduous task. Gathering nettles, she endured great pain to make the fabric, and her hands became blistered and sore from the work. Despite the difficulty, she remained silent and dedicated to her mission.

Years passed, and one day a king from a neighboring kingdom discovered the princess in the forest. Struck by her beauty and apparent sorrow, he brought her to his castle and eventually married her, even though she never spoke a word. However, not everyone in the court was pleased with the silent queen, and some accused her of witchcraft, suspecting her silence and strange activities. As the seventh year approached, the princess had nearly finished the twelfth shirt, but her enemies seized the opportunity to accuse her more strongly.
The Princess was arrested and sentenced to death by burning at the stake. On the day of her execution, she carried the twelve nettle shirts with her, still unable to speak in her defense. As the flames were about to be lit, the twelve wild ducks flew down and surrounded her. With the last ounce of her strength, the princess threw the nettle shirts over her brothers. Instantly, they transformed back into their human forms.         The curse was broken just in time, but the youngest brother still had one wing because his shirt was not completely finished. With the curse lifted, the princess could finally speak. She told the king and the court her story, and her innocence was proven. The king, deeply moved by her sacrifice and dedication, ordered her immediate release. The princess and her brothers were reunited, and they all lived happily ever after.
