5) INTRODUCTION:
* Research is a process in which participants examine their own educational practices, systematically and carefully, using the techniques of research.
* It is a systematic and scientific inquiry done by teachers to gather information and improve how they teach and how they teach and how well their students learn.
6) WHY THIS RESEARCH ? ( Objectives)_ Context
* To give new opportunities to educators to reflect on and assess their teaching.
* To explore and test new ideas, methods, and materials.
* To assess how effective the new approaches were.
* To share feedback with fellow team.
* To make decisions about which new approaches to include in the practice.

7) IDENTIFING AN ISSUE AND DEVELOPING A RESEARCH QUESTION ( TITLE OF THE PROBLEM)
CLASS ROOM ISSUE
“ Some of the students in class 9th E.M. can read text book lessons properly but they cannot read any passage other than the text book.”.
Review of the problem: ( Back ground of the problem):
There are 16 students in 9th standard English Medium In our school. Among them about 50% can do better in English. What about the remaining?
Initially the students have vernacular ( Telugu) medium back ground. So they use less vocabulary compared to the remaining. Here, arises the problem to read any passage outside the textbook. Some are good at communication , reading and in thinking. But what about the remaining ? This is the reason for my Exploratory Research.
SAMPLE:
For this Research I have taken 8 students as the sample. As it is pandemic situation I followed online mode for this Research process.
VARIABLES :
I have identified the VARIABLES like environment, poverty, illiterate parents,peer group, shyness to express, fear of criticism, phobia of errors and bullying etc.,
SELECTION OF RESEARCH DESIGN( TOOL):
There are many research tools like observation,interview,rating scale, case study etc..
I have selected “Interview” as a tool to continue Research. I have interviewed 8 sample students, their parents, co-teachers and subject experts of member states of RIESI whom I met in CELT-JULY 2021 with some questions.
8) RESEARCH QUESTION:
* HOW CAN I IMPROVE CLASS 9TH STUDENTS’S READING SKILL OF AUTHENTIC MATERIALS.
Sub-questions :
LEARNERS:
*Which is your favourite language?
* Can you say the benefits of reading English?
* Is it possible to survive without reading English in present situation?
* What are the problems that you are facing to read other than English text book?
* What kind of support do you expect from the teachers?
PARENTS:
In which language they wanted their kids to read?
What are the reasons they mention for the backwardness of their kids in English?
What kind of support they are providing for their wards to improve reading ability?
Are they co-operate to me to improve learners reading ability?
What is their opinion on English language reading?
CO-TEACHERS:
What might be the reasons of the mentioned students to be in backward status in reading English?
What are the strategies suggested to improve their reading skill?
How are they motivated towards English reading?
How to getrid of them from the fear of international language?
How do they co-operate to develop the reading skills of the mentioned students?

What are the suggested methods /approaches/techniques to develop the reading skill of the mentioned ?
What are the suggested triggers that attract students to read other than English textbooks.?

REFLECTION TEST(PRE-TEST)
I have supplied some library books , magazines, product wrappers, etc to the sample students and assigned them to read and write their reflections. This is the pre-test conducted in the Exploratory Research.(AUGUST-1ST WEEK)
9) DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS:
For the present research I have collected the data from learners, their parents,co-teachers ,and subject experts.There are two types of data collected.
QUANTITATIVE DATA;
Data that can be expressed as a number and numerically analysed.
.Eg; Numbers, and statistics.

Qualitative data:
Data which is informative that cannot be expressed as number.
Eg: Words, objects, pictures, and symbols.
10) Findings:
After analysing the data I found the following findings.
LEARNERS;
Children are feeling fear of second language.
No support from parents.
Fear of criticism.
Lack of practice.
Influence of vernacular language.
Lack of confidence.
Lack of English language atmosphere.
Less vocabulary.
Phobia of errors.
PARENTS:
To follow child centered transaction.
To Illiterate parents.
Environmental disturbances.
Lost knowledge due to pandemic.
No English atmosphere.
CO-TEACHERS:
give more practice.
To develop reference skills.
To use library and authentic materials.
To encourage democratic way of learning .
SUBJECT EXPERTS:
I have collected the views and suggestions of subject experts from six states online of RIESI-CELT-JULY 2021.
To be a facilitator and follow discussion method.
To conduct competitions which develop reading skills.
To give applause and guestures as encouragement.
Record the performance and present it in the class room for feedback.
Give much practice for the vocabulary development.
With these data collection and findings I have planned an ACTION RESEARCH.I would like to continue this research till get expected outcomes.
11) ACTION PLAN :
After analysing the data I referred findings and took suggestions from subject experts and formulated a HYPOTHESIS and started an ACTION PLAN to ddevelop the reading habits of 9th class(E.M) sample students. For this plan I followed different activities like reading library books ,authentic materials,magazines and write reflections.The performances of the children are recorded and sent to parents through whatsup .Small prizes are given to students as encouragement.

HYPOTHEISIS means ‘A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation”
I have intended
To modify my teaching methods.
To update my professional ability.
To share more information to my students.
To gather and supply various authentic materials to improve reading skills.
To encourage them to refer dictionary to develop vocabulary.
To facilitate children to read library books.
12) ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED:
I have planned to continue the research till the end of AUGUST with week-wise plan
*August 2nd week :
Conducted Dictation to the sample students with general words related to daily life context.
*August 3rd week:I have assigned a task to read any passage or story from library or internet or magazine or any other source and record the audio and then sent it to me through whatsup. Assessment done on the basis of pronunciation, utterance, stress etc.
*August 4 th week:
Gave a task to read the given pie diagram and table and then respond to the given. Assessment done.
*August 5th week:
I gave story cards from the school library and asked them to write reflections in the given format. Editing done. Evaluated in view of content, organisation, grammar and format.

13) DATA ANALYSIS:
After the data collection of one month action research I found little bit improvement in the reading habits of sample students. Quantitative and qualitative data collected and recorded.

After analysing the data I found the following findings.
14) FINDINGS/ OBSERVATIONS :
Learners
Developed reading habits.
Referred to wrappers of home products and wrote reflections.
Referred dictionaries.
Developed divergent thinking to write reflections.
Able to interpretate the given data and respond.
Identify the spelling of difficult words in the given.
Able to understand the gist of the given reading contents.
Carry out the Research:
After implementing the above, I have recorded the reflections of the children through video recordings and sent to their parents as encouragement.Gave some prizes to the best performance as applause in the school assembly.
Interpretation of Results:
After this research most of the students are interested to read authentic materials like library books, newspapers, magazines, posters, wrappers of home products etc.after reading they can understand the theme of the data.
15) REVISED ACTION PLAN;
These findings are very much useful to me to improve the reading skills of my students.. So I would like to continue the same. If it is successful I would like to follow the same in future also.
CONCLUSION;
RESEARCH is a very useful scientific inquiry to update our mode of teaching.
In this context I would like to share that our APSCERT inaugurated and implemented a valuable programme to develop reading skill of learners, “WE LOVE READING”,which we successfully following in our Andhra Pradesh.
